Member of Parliament Mahua Moitra recently tied the knot with fellow MP and lawyer Pinaki Misra in an intimate ceremony held in Berlin, Germany. The celebration was attended by the couple’s closest family members and friends, keeping the occasion private and personal.
For her special day, Mahua Moitra chose a stunning sari crafted by the renowned label Raw Mango. The sari, a result of a collaborative effort between Moitra and designer Sanjay Garg, took 45 days to create. Drawing inspiration from textile archives as part of Raw Mango’s ongoing revival initiatives, the custom piece was meticulously woven by two skilled artisans.
The bride’s ensemble featured the ‘Parigul’ sari, a delicate pale pink Varanasi silk brocade woven with genuine zari. This masterpiece was created using the intricate Kadwa technique in a traditional ‘jangla’ pattern, where each motif is woven individually with extra weft threads, leaving no floating threads on the reverse side. The sari was adorned with rani pink Meenakari work, creating a floral trellis inspired by historic printed textiles like kalamkari chintz, which often depict lush flora and fauna.
Moitra complemented her sari with a matching pale pink ‘Gulshera’ blouse crafted from silk satin. The blouse featured elegant gathers at the shoulders and bust, adding a modern touch to the traditional ensemble.
The designer shared, “Mahua selected the color and tone herself, making the creation even more personal. The sari is a testament to the artistry and heritage of Indian weaving.”
